The phenomenal success
enjoyed in his fashion designing career has turned him into one of the richest
designer in the world. Jimmy Choo reputation for producing some of the most
exquisite handmade shoes available brought him to the attention of Tamara
Mellon. A fashion journalist, Tamara Mellon recognized the huge potential for
growth in high-end designer accessories market. She approached Choo in
launching a ready-to-wear shoe company.
Despite the rise of his popularity, Choo
was still a small operation, making only 20 pairs shoes in a week. Furthermore,
he also has been honoured with prestigious civilian awards by the government
U.K and Malaysia in recognition of his impressive achievements. Besides, Choo
also design his own line of fashion accessories like handbags and shoes under
the “Jimmy Choo couture line” label which all have raked in millions of
dollars. But it was his relationship with Vogue that prove to be instrumental
in the rise of Jimmy Choo brand. Together, Choo and Mellon quickly grew the
business. They contracted with Italian factories and opened their boutique in
London.
Choo
and Mellon were at odds on the direction of the company. Choo, did not think
bigger was better. But he questioned the quality of the shoes the company was
making, and seemed long for the days when he was back at his shop at Hackney
making a small number pieces of shoes for specific clients.
